California Love!
I'm going to California to chill from Tuesday, May 12th to Thursday, May 14th. In honor of my time on the West Coast, I'll do my best to listen to 2Pac in California. It's the least I can do to please my high school music CD jacket.
¡Estoy en México!
Hello all! I wont be posting until next Tuesday as I will be in Monterrey, Mexico for a few days. My beautiful girlfriend's cousin is getting married and I'm tagging along for the ride. I look forward to taking scores of pictures and will do a MooTools lightbox tutorial when I get back.
wii Baseball Issues
One thing I do that bugs friends (and myself, quite frankly) is point out programming deficiencies and inconsistencies while playing videogames. I can't help it — it's what I do! My current obsession is wii Sports Baseball. I got my wii about a month after its initial launch and like everyone else I was obsessed with bowling for a long time. I've since moved on to baseball and in my time playing the game I've noticed a few things that seem like glaring mistakes to me.
Web Predictions For 2009
A new year usually brings hope of better things. It also bring expectations and wonder. Here are my (unfounded) web predictions for 2009.
Startup Schwag: A Web 2.0 Goody Bag
It's hard being a web enthusiast in the middle of America. The excitement and value of technology isn't nearly as apparent as it is on the east coast, much less the west coast, so imagine how difficult it can be to find any sort of tech-related apparel around here.
What I’m Thankful For: 2008 Edition
For all of you wacky Euros and non-American readers, today is what we call Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is the day that we "express general gratitude" by eating way too much, getting in fights with family members, and watching football. This year I'd like to express gratitude to those that make my programming career fun.
Fun With Source Code
I'm a serial view-source guy. When I visit a website, whether it be for research or leisure, I need to know what their HTML looks like. Do they use a CMS? Which one? Is there anything that this developer does that I could in the future? Which JS library do they use? How much JS do they embed within the page instead of the header? Do they use Google Analytics? Dozens of questions come to my mind.
An Open Letter to You, Webmaster
Dear Webmaster,
The XAMPP, Apache, and Skype Issue
As your probably already know, you can run an Apache server right off of a USB drive using XAMPP. It's a great ability to have because you can take a website anywhere with you. I can work on the same site off of the USB drive from home, at my girlfriend's place, on my laptop in front of the TV, at work....you get the point.
Are You Having A Laugh?
I'll be honest — it's been a long, tough week at work. After trying to follow through on some of my 8 Ways for a Programmer to Stay Sane, I need a bit more. As David Brent would say, I need to have a laugh.
